MCVB Sweeps Maine Trip to Bates and Colby

Last weekend we traveled to Maine to face both Bates and Colby.  Our Bates match on Friday night was one of our best matches yet this season.  We came out ready to play and battled Bates to a very close first set 25-20.  After that first set, however, we completely took them out of their game, dominating the match by scores of 25-14, and 25-8.  We didn't have any hitting errors after the first set, going 15-0-27, and 12-0-24 for the next two sets.  Overall for the match, we hit  .433.  Isabel, Sarah and Jane led our offensive attack with 14, 8 and 7 kills respectively.  Chellsa also had 5 kills on 8 attempts, which was fun! Additionally, Maggie and Corley both had 0 error days with 5-0-13, adn 4-0-7 hitting days, so that was also great to see.  Gigi had a match high 16 digs, and Chellsa eclipsed the 1000 set mark, so congratulations to Chellsa on that feat!

We spend the night there in Auburn, Maine and were able to sleep in, get breakfast at the hotel, stop and Dunkin Donuts and still get to  in time to watch some of our other teams also competing there.  We're never at the same place as our other Fall teams, but that Saturday EVERY MIDD team but Cross Country was at Colby!  It was so fun to watch some of our women's soccer and field hockey before getting ready for our game.

Colby fought us all the way, and although we would go on a quick run, they would come back and keep closing the scoring gap.  We were up 10-9 when we made another small run to go up 14-9.  As it turned out, they would only score 2 more points in that first set as we went on runs of 6-1 to go up 20-10, and then the final 5-1 run to close out the first set 25-11.  The second set was even closer as we seemed to just trade points up to a 19-19 tie.  At that point we made a final push scoring the last 6 points of the set on two kills from Bella and several errors from them.  The finals set saw us get out to a 12-3 lead and although they kept fighting to keep in the set, we closed out the match with a final set score of 25-16.  As a team, we hit .277, but Sarah continued hitting well with a .643 hitting percentage on a 9-0-14 day.  Others without an error were Jaime, Jane and Shea, so well done everyone!  We also had 9 service aces to their 3, so it was a good day for us behind the service line as well as at the net.

When we finished, the men's soccer team was in OT, and our football team had just won!  All in all, it was a great day to be a Panther!

On top of all the MIDD wins, it was also Brian's Birthday!!  We've had quite a run of team birthdays this month, and Brian's is the final one of September!  Happy Birthday, Brian!!

We've had a week of practice now and are back on the road today heading to Connecticut College and then Wesleyan.  LET'S GO MCVB!!
